Gavin Norrish Appointed Coach

Lower South West Football League’s return to the Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Championships on 2025, will be led by the respected Gavin Norrish. Having been involved with the Kojonup Football Club for 40+ years, and having been awarded Life Membership in 2024, Norrish has a longevity in football that is matched only by his resume.

Norrish leads the LSWFL into the championships in 2025, having most recently coached a senior flag in 2023, and returning to the Grand Final in 2024 with the Cougars. Not only does Norrish bring recent high level club form to the role, but previous experience with the cut and thrust of carnival football, having previously led the GSFL representative team, including a B Section win in 2006. While the quality of Norrish as a coach at club level is not in dispute, the ability to manage the fast paced nature of a carnival, where two days of games against largely unknown opposition come quickly, is a crucial skill set.

Norrish has played under a range of coaches that have shaped his own approach, from his early days in Kojonup, to a year on South Fremantle’s list in 1991, with Steve Hargrave the senior coach at the time.

Norrish has been hard at work already, with the squad initially assembling for their first training run on June 9. Heading toward the carnival, Norrish has been watching the LSWFL talent spread across the league, no doubt planning the line up he believes can bring the best possible result for the region in July.

The Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Championships pool games for Division 3 will be conducted on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12, with the Grand Final to take place on Sunday.

The Lower South West will face matches on the Friday against North Midlands at 12pm and Mortlock at 2pm, with those games taking place at Gil Fraser Reserve in North Fremantle. Saturday sees matches against Esperance at 12.30pm and Central Wheatbelt at 2.30pm, with those games taking place at HIF Health Insurance Oval in Joondalup.
