The 2025 Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Championships commence in under two weeks, with the Lower South West Football League set to attend for the first time since 2018, competing in Division 3. Country Football W.A have released the fixtures, that will see the LSWFL in action in two matches at Gil Fraser Reserve in North Fremantle on Friday, July 11, before a further two matches at HIF Insurance Stadium in Joondalup on the Saturday.
In the first match on return to the Country Championships, the Lower South West will take on North Midlands at 12pm. North Midlands won two of their four games in 2024, with wins over Central Wheatbelt and Hills, who won’t be attending the championships in 2025. North Midlands will feature players from clubs such as Dongara, Three Springs and 2024 Premiers Coorow-Latham, in what is likely to be a fascinating contrast in styles.
At 2pm, the Lower South West will clash with Mortlock, who appear in Division 3 this year after a tough campaign in Division 2 that saw them go winless in 2024. While the wins didn’t flow, two of their four losses were by under two goals and Mortlock will no doubt be keen to make an impact in Division 3. With clubs such as Gingin, Toodyay and 2024 Premiers Goomalling likely to be heavily represented, this game could well be a key match up in the make up of Division 3.
As the action moves north on Saturday, the Lower South West will look south for their opponents at 12.30pm. Esperance were runners up in Division 3 in 2024, ultimately losing to the Great Southern in the Grand Final by 27 points. Premiership success has been shared in recent years in the EDFA, with Esperance themselves taking out the 2024 title, after Gibson in 2023 and Newtown Condingup in 2022. It will be the second representative clash between the leagues in 2025, after Esperance defeated the Lower South West by 4 points in the recent Great Southern Colts Carnival.
Rounding out the pool game action on Saturday at 2.30pm, the final opponents will be Central Wheatbelt. Central Wheatbelt had a tough carnival in 2024, with just the one win, over Hills by 15 points. With clubs such as Mukinbudin, Korda and triple reigning Premiers Kalannie amongst their represented clubs, the Central Wheatbelt will be yet another different test for Gavin Norrish’s side.
The Division 3 Grand Final is set for 9am on Sunday at Sullivan Logistics Stadium in Leederville and hopefully Norrish and his charges will be part of the early Sunday action.
